ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed the report. Like DeAngelo Williams, Gore is 28 years old. It's not difficult to imagine Gore targeting even more than Williams, considering he's been a much more effective player over the past two seasons. Gore and his agent -- Drew Rosenhaus -- also realize the 49ers are heavily counting on the running game with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick listed 1-2 on one of the league's worst quarterback depth charts.

Gore might miss a couple of games like he usually does this season, but he's at no further risk because of the hip.

"If I have to test the market, that's what I'll have to do." Gore will be highly motivated this season.

Gore is reportedly also unhappy that he's playing so much in preseason (he has eight carries for 41 yards through two games), because it puts him at risk of injury in a contract year. Gore's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will fly to San Francisco Monday in hopes of brokering a deal. The 49ers are not expected to trade Gore, but Kendall Hunter has shown enough that he at least gives the team some leverage. We realize Gore is one of the top all-around backs in football, but the Niners need to be careful to not overpay him at age 28 coming off a fractured hip.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>The 49ers' offensive line was overwhelmed by the Seahawks, leading to just 2.68 yards per carry on 22 attempts for Gore. The good news is that the 49ers aren't afraid to ride Gore, and he's proven he can handle monster workloads before. Look for another 25-touch outing against the Cowboys this week.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>"In my mind, Frank's good to go," said Harbaugh. The optimism reduces the chances that Kendall Hunter might make his first NFL start. Gore was in and out of the lineup in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Bengals, afterwards saying that his Week 4 status was uncertain. On the season, Gore is averaging 2.51 yards per carry with just one touchdown. On the plus side for Gore's availability, he was not in a boot at the 49ers' facility Monday.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Kendall Hunter started, but played only 23 snaps. Gore's ankle emerged from the game healthy, but be careful not to overrate his productive performance. The Eagles' miserable linebacker corps gave up 147 rushing yards to Steven Jackson/Cadillac Williams in Week 1, 114 yards to Michael Turner in Week 2, and 105 yards to Ahmad Bradshaw/Brandon Jacobs in Week 3. The safe play is to sell Gore high. He's simply not the same player this season.
